Cyberpunk 2077 Monowire Vs Mantis Blades
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best cross-platform action role-playing video games of 2020. The story is set in an open-world Night City and revolves around the story of a character named V, a mercenary outlaw who is after an implant that may be the key to immortality. It is a highly customizable action role-playing game with an overwhelming number of weapons that the character can use as he further progresses through the missions. The game allows you to use the talking gun Skippy and other legendary guns such as Lizzie.
There are so many builds available, depending on the archetype you want to put the focus on. If you want a more simple, and traditional hand-combat experience, then a melee-focused character is right for you. Given, of course, that you have invested upon upgrading all the necessary attributes.
Now, begs the question, which melee weapon is best for your character? In this article, we will be discussing two of the most powerful melee weapons in Night City – Monowire and Mantis Blade.
Mantis Blades in Cyberpunk 2077
As you may already have guessed, the Mantis Blade got its name from the group of insects called mantis. It features a fold-out blade which, when implanted on your cybernetics arm, would make it look like the forelegs of a praying mantis. With that said, the Mantis Blades is hidden in your cybernetics forearm when not extended.
The Mantis Blade is designed to be modular, with swappable blades edges, and often dual-wielded. That means, gamers can use both of them as lethal melee weapons.
Mantis Blades Stats
The Mantis Blades will allow your character to swiftly slash up and even dismember enemies, as well as leap towards any targets and deal massive damages. To replace your normal fist attacks, install the Mantis Blade on trusted Ripperdoc.
The following are the stats for the Mantis Blade:
Tier | Legendary |
Damage | 118-144 |
Physical Damage | 63-77 |
Attack Speed | 2 |
Bleeding Chance | 10% |
Critical Damage | 10% |
Note that the following statistics will differ depending on your level. Don’t worry, it will automatically improve itself once you level up. We highly advise that you invest on skills that benefit both the blades and melee attacks to boost its effectiveness.
Mods For Mantis Blades
From characters to its weapons, Cyberpunk 2077 offers a wide variety of modifications. The Mantis Blades granted a legendary item, has some special mods available which can further improve its already lethal stats.
Currently, there are two mods available of Mantis Blades in Cyberpunk 2077, and both of them increase the attack speed of your blades.
Mantis Blade Edge:
- Physical Damage
- Thermal Damage
- Chemical Damage
- Electrical Damage
Mantis Blade Rotor:
- Slow Rotor (+ 20% attack speed)
- Fast Rotor (+35% attack speed)
- Haming-8 Rotor (+45% attack speed)
There are also three other passive perks you can upgrade to further improve the blade damage and speed of the Mantis Blade:
- Roaring waters – deals 30% extra damage, and upgradeable thrice.
- Sting Like a Bee – increases blade attack speed.
- Unbroken Spirit – restores 25% of health and stamina every counter attack.
How To Get Mantis Blades
Now, we get to the fun part. Where do we actually get the Mantis Blade? There are two ways to do that. You can either pay for it, or find it in the Night City.
If you are at Street Cred 20 or above, you can purchase the Mantis Blade. You just need to visit Ripperdocs (the one with white scissors icon on the map), and have it installed. However, eddies are a scarce commodity, and you might as well spend it on something else like cars or clothing. It’s also not always that a Ripperdoc has a supply of Mantis Blade.
Here’s how to find a Mantis Blade:
- Go to Corpo Plaza, and head to the front of the Center of Behavioral health training.
- Go down the alley to the left of the building, sneak through the yellow gate.
Remember to always save the game every time you enter because the Mantis Blades doesn’t usually appear.
- You will see a crime scene littered with cadavers. At this point, you need to complete the fixer gig. Heads up, this is guarded by cyberpsycho.
- Now, check the right side for a chest that is against the wall. Now, claim your Mantis Blade. If not, just try again by reloading your last save.
- Go to a Ripperdoc and have it installed. Don’t worry, there is no charge as long as you were able to bring all the materials.

Monowire In Cyberpunk 2077
Aside from Mantis Blades, you can also hook your melee-focused character with a Monowire. Think of a monowire as a fishing line or a guitar string you can use to strangle someone, except that it’s made with a laser, and that you can whip it to your opponents resulting in a severe damage.
Talking about wires, it is essential to stay wired to your seat and to do that a gamer needs to equip the best gaming chair from their inventory and place it in front of the monitor or television. Check out my top picks on gaming chairs with cup holders. Long hours of gaming made relaxing.
You can use a monowire as a stealth weapon (huge advantage), as a sharp whip tool, or even as a hacking tool. It also doesn’t make too much noise due to its molecular composition.
Monowire Stats
While Mantis Blades can be used to slash up or dismember an enemy, monowire can be used as a stealth sharp whip weapon, you can also conceal against the enemies.
The following are the stats for the monowire:
Tier | Rare |
Damage | 178-218 |
Physical Damage | 73-90 |
Attack Speed | 2.5 |
Bleeding Chance | 10% |
Note that the following statistics will differ depending on your level. Don’t worry, it will automatically improve itself once you level up all the necessary attributes.
Mods For Monowire
Monowire has two known mods. Just remember that monowire passive upgrades corresponds with Street Brawler Skills and Body attributes. We highly advise that you also focus on the Cool attribute to increase the damage of monowire by 3.
- Monowire Battery – 50% increase in charge damage.
- Chemical Damage – poisons enemies in a single attack. Best used against groups of enemies.
How To Get Monowire
A cheap version of monowire cost 15,000 eddies, just like the Mantis Blades. However, you can also get this for free, and have it installed by a Ripperdoc at no cost.
- Take Regina Jones’ gig Shark in The Water.
- As soon as you get to the pharmacy, turn left to get to the garage door around the corner.
- Inside it are junk tires, and a crate that contains the monowire.
If you already completed the Regina Jones’ gig without the monowire, you can still find the pharmacy in Kabuki. This pharmacy is called Roger Wang Pharmacy, and it’s not that hard to locate since it’s the only one in the area. Just sneak through the shattered garage door, and claim the monowire.

Verdict
Melee combat is simple, traditional, and takes just a little learning curve. As for the two most powerful melee weapons, both Mantis Blade and Monowire have their own advantages. We highly suggest that you experiment with which do you think will work best for you. Are you more confident in slashing enemies? Go with Mantis Blade. You want a weapon that you can use as a whip, and a hacking tool at the same time? Then monowire is right for you. Just make sure to improve all your Body attributes early in the game to increase their stats. If you feel melee weapons aren’t for you and you prefer using guns, check out our article on Cyberpunk 2077 Guns List.
I didn’t find the monowire here, just a crafting spec for the baseball bat. Might be a random drop like the Mantis Blades.
Since 1.5 all the cyberware has to be bought at a cyberdoc. Sadly no looting anymore, which means no legendary til street cred 45 :/
