Accepted Answer

A Tortle’s Wisdom Ability Score Bonus qualifies them for the Cleric role since they need their Wisdom for much of the spellcasting. The added Bonus to their Strength lets them go for the offensive as melee combatants, in the process, allowing them to dish out damage while still supporting the team.

4. Does Tortle natural armor stack with unarmored defense?

Accepted Answer

The tortle’s natural armor is an AC calculation, and so is Unarmored Defense. You cannot use over one AC calculation at a point. So, you cannot use Unarmored Defense while also using a tortle’s natural armor.

5. Is Tortle shell defense good?

Accepted Answer

In the melee, tortle shell defense is a bad idea because of prone, but if you are about to get peppered by some archers, you get to drop into your shell, giving them a disadvantage + 4 more AC to hit you.

Accepted Answer

Bracers of Defense work fine with tortles, but as long as you make sure your character has attuned to said bracers.

7. Can a Tortle use a shield?

Accepted Answer

At their base 17 Armor Class, using Shell Defense is somehow worse than doing nothing against melee attackers. The only way to increase your Armor Class is by employing a shield (+2 AC). With the Shield of Faith spell, you can increase your Armor Class (+2 AC), but note that it requires concentration.
