Every weapon mods are unique to the gunsmith, which means you will have to grind quite a bit before you can get your hands on them. As of now, there are two ways through which you can get kinetic weapon mods in Destiny 2.

In the first method, you will get a weapon mod when you successfully decrypt a Gunsmith engram. Once you level him up, the Gunsmith can offer you different weapons and mods. However, there is relatively less chance of obtaining a kinetic weapon mod in this one.

To rank up the Gunsmith Engram, you will need to break down blue-colored rarity armors and weapons. Upon dismantling, you will be granted gunsmith parts that can be traded with the Banshee-44 at any social space in Destiny 2. 

For the second method, you will need to earn a fair share of Glimmer before you can get an elusive kinetic weapon mod. To do this, visit the Banshee-44. Scroll down to “Gear Mods” and then tap on the option which reads “Random Mod.” Here, you will need to spend 2,500 glimmer to get a random blue Rare for either a piece of armor or a legendary weapon.

These mods are completely random, and you will purchase quite a few of them to land yourself a kinetic weapon mod. Purchase several Rare mods. Now scroll down to the section just below the “Gear Mod” column. Note that for obtaining one legendary mod, you’ll need three Rare mods. One of these random mods can be Kinetic, so this is your best chance at getting one.
